Proceedings
2005/01/31 - Paper copies of the Proceedings are now available as well. Copies have been sent out to all EFD 2004 participants and authors. If you are not one of them but would like to receive a copy, please send us an e-mail.
2004/12/17 - The Proceedings are now available in digital form in PDF format. See Publications -> Technical Reports for more information. Paper copies will likely be available and distributed in January 2005.
The submission date for final versions for the proceedings has been changed from October 3, 2004 to October 10, 2004.
The final version of your paper should use the standard LaTeX article document class. Please send us the LaTeX source of your article, a postscript or pdf version, as well as any pictures included in your paper and any non-standard style files you may have used. Bibliographical items should be included in a separate BibTeX (.bib) file. There is no formal limit to the size of your paper, but we suggest restricting this to ca. 15 pages, especially in view of a possible submission to a journal special issue (to be announced later). Final versions should be sent to proceedings@fastar.org.

Eindhoven FASTAR Days 2004
September 3rd & 4th 2004
Technische Universiteit Eindhoven,
Eindhoven, The Netherlands

The FASTAR (Finite Automata Systems --- Theoretical and Applied Research) group is an international research group involving researchers at the Technische Universiteit Eindhoven, The Netherlands, as well as the University of Pretoria, South Africa.
Our work includes both core and applied parts of the finite automata field. The core concepts include: finite automata, regular expressions, pattern matchers, parsers, transducers, algorithms operating on these object, and data-structures.
The applied areas in FASTAR are particularly broad, and encompass: text indexing, computational linguistics, bioinformatics/computational genetics, network security and intrusion detection, programming languages and compilers, communicating concurrent systems, modeling and control of interacting nanomachines, etc.
The FASTAR group invites you to attend and participate in the Eindhoven FASTAR Days (EFD) 2004. The topics of these days are the abovementioned core and applied parts of the finite automata field, with an emphasis on practical aspects of finite automata.
The EFD 2004 will be held at the Technische Universiteit Eindhoven in Eindhoven, The Netherlands, on friday September 3rd and saturday September 4th (depending on the amount of presentations and demonstrations). The complete program will be announced at a later time, as it is dependent on the number of talks to be given. An attendance fee of at most 100 EUR (exact amount to be determined later) will be charged. The program and attendance fee includes lunch on friday September 3rd, and dinner and drinks on the evening of September 3rd as well.
Topics for 30-minute presentations or demonstrations should be related to finite automata and their applications, and practical aspects thereof in particular. Suggested topics include:
- automata construction and transformation algorithms
- pattern matching automata
- data structures for automata
- design and implementation of automata toolkits
- interactive applications related to automata
- automata visualization
- intrusion detection systems
- bioinformatics
We ask that you register for participation by July 15, 2004, preferably, so that we have an idea of how many attendants to expect. To register for participation, please send an e-mail to efd2004@fastar.org.
We invite all attendants to give a presentation or demonstration. If you would like to present something at the EFD 2004, please send us a short abstract and a title of your presentation or demonstration proposal by July 15 as well, so that we can put together the EFD 2004 program in time. You may do so either in your registration e-mail or by submitting the abstract to efd-talks@fastar.org. We ask that you then submit your full paper or presentation by August 1, 2004. As the EFD 2004 are a workshop-like event, there will not be an official review process, but submission by this date allows us to provide feedback and to have copies printed for distribution at the FASTAR Days.
After the EFD 2004, authors should send us their final versions for post-proceedings by October 3, 2004. These will be published both online and/or on CD-ROM (with an official ISBN number), as well as in the form of a TU/e Computer Science Technical Report. Selected papers will be invited for submission for a special issue of an international journal.
